Press Release: A Resolution Honoring Secretary Sarah Copeland Hanzas for Her Commitment to Vermont Voting Rights

October 2, 2025

Montpelier, VT – In observance of National Voter Education Week (October 6-10), the League of Women Voters of Vermont delivered a resolution to Vermont Secretary of State Sarah Copeland Hanzas honoring her commitment to protecting voting rights.

Secretary Copeland Hanzas released two public statements in August affirming and outlining her office’s dedication to the U.S. Constitution, Vermont State Law, and the protection of Vermonters’ private information and right to vote.

“The League wanted to recognize Secretary Copeland Hanzas as a defender of voter rights in Vermont. By countering the Trump administration’s false claims about mail-in ballots and resisting requests for Vermont voter data, the Secretary demonstrates the qualities of a strong leader worth celebrating,” said League President Pelin Kohn.

“It is a privilege to receive this resolution from the League of Women Voters,” stated Secretary Copeland Hanzas. “I would also like to take a moment to express our gratitude in return—the League, which originated from the suffragette movement, is recognized as a leading light in advocating for voter rights in Vermont, and we value their partnership in strengthening our democracy.”
