RANKED CHOICE VOTING IN VERMONT

April 17, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Monday April  17 | 7:00 p.m. | Zoom

LWVVT is providing an online program to inform Vermonters about what is happening with ranked choice voting (RCV) in Vermont.

The current draft of S.32, an act relating to ranked choice voting for presidential primary elections, adds two additional opportunities to improve our democracy. S. 32 would eliminate the need for approval of the Vermont legislature for towns and cities to choose RCV for local elections as soon as the 2024 Town Meeting Day. The bill also creates a study committee to consider implementation of RCV for statewide elections as early as 2026.

Member Betty Keller will present an overview of RCV, with time for questions after each section. Registrants will receive a mock election ballot before the event. The Monday evening event will repeat Tuesday afternoon to accommodate different schedules.  Stop in for whichever portions most interest you.

7:00  How does Ranked Choice Voting work?

7:30  Why RCV for Presidential Primaries?

8:00  What is in S.32, the current Vermont bill on RCV?
