Join us for “Proposal 4 Equality of Rights,” the first in the League’s 2026-27 Lecture Series. This is an opportunity to learn more about the amendment and issues surrounding it and to get your questions answered.
Proposal 4 is on the ballot and Vermonters will vote yes or no in the General Election to add it to the Vermont constitution, thereby guaranteeing everyone equal protection under the law.
Cary Brown, Vermont Commission on Women, will speak on the intent and implications of the amendment. She believes this Equal Rights Amendment sends a bold and timely message about our values. Cary supports legislation, policies, programs, and initiatives that facilitate full civil rights for all people and works with issues that affect women, girls and their families.
Big Hartman, Vermont Human Rights Commission, will discuss history and context of the amendment. An expert on fair housing, employment discrimination, disability rights, and harassment prevention, Big has a lifelong commitment to social justice, equity, and civil rights. They have been a licensed attorney in Vermont since 2005, focusing on labor, employment, and anti-discrimination best practices.
In its eleventh season, the League of Women Voters of Vermont Hertz Rader Lecture Series in collaboration with Kellogg-Hubbard Library, is designed to bring outstanding speakers to discuss contemporary issues related to democracy and social justice.
