SUMMARY:RANKED CHOICE VOTING IN VERMONT
DESCRIPTION:Monday April  17 | 7:00 p.m. | Zoom \nLWVVT is providing an online program to inform Vermonters about what is happening with ranked choice voting (RCV) in Vermont.   \nThe current draft of S.32\, an act relating to ranked choice voting for presidential primary elections\, adds two additional opportunities to improve our democracy. S. 32 would eliminate the need for approval of the Vermont legislature for towns and cities to choose RCV for local elections as soon as the 2024 Town Meeting Day. The bill also creates a study committee to consider implementation of RCV for statewide elections as early as 2026. \nMember Betty Keller will present an overview of RCV\, with time for questions after each section. Registrants will receive a mock election ballot before the event. The Monday evening event will repeat Tuesday afternoon to accommodate different schedules.  Stop in for whichever portions most interest you. \n7:00  How does Ranked Choice Voting work? \n7:30  Why RCV for Presidential Primaries? \n8:00  What is in S.32\, the current Vermont bill on RCV? \nRegistration : Fill out this form to get the Zoom information for digital-only presentation \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcrcumgrTwoG9Si86nGFTaFLKBzZss0t96g \nAlso: Please fill out this ballot for a mock election:\nhttps://app.rankedvote.co/decisions/34576/Preferred-Ice-Cream-Flavor/36127/vote

SUMMARY:THE PRIVATIZATION OF MEDICARE
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 30 | 1:00 p.m. |Barre Area Senior Center\, 131 S Main Street \nTHE PRIVATIZATION OF MEDICARE \nDr. Marvin Malek\, past president of Vermont Physicians for a National Health Program\, in his presentation on the privatization of Medicare\, will review Medicare Advantage\, Direct Contracting Entities (DCE) and the new Accountable Care-Realizing Equity\, Access\, and Community Health (ACO/REACH) program as he leads a discussion about the impact of privatization initiatives on the care that Medicare beneficiaries receive\, the costs Medicare beneficiaries will be facing\, and financial stability of the Medicare program. \nAfter its implementation in 1965\, for the first 20 years\, the Medicare program reimbursed hospitals and doctors directly for care provided to enrollees. In 1985\, some Medicare recipients were given the option of choosing to have their benefit managed by a private company\, currently known as Medicare Advantage. Last year\, officials in the Medicare program announced that by 2030\, they would be involuntarily assigning the remaining Medicare enrollees into another managed care program—the ACO/REACH program. \nCo-sponsored by Vermont Physicians for a National Health Program\, Vermont Health Care for All\, Vermont State Employees Association\, and Vermont Workers’ Center. The program will be recorded by Onion River Community Access.

SUMMARY:THE PRIVATIZATION OF MEDICARE
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, February 6  | 5:30-7:30 p.m. \nTHE PRIVATIZATION OF MEDICARE \nKellogg-Hubbard Library\, 135 Main Street\, Montpelier | Free \nDr.
