Freedom of the Press: First Amendment, Five Freedoms Series. Media coverage - print, broadcast, online - keeps us actively engaged and shapes how we see the world. However, Americans trust and confidence in mass media is at its lowest level at 32 percent (Gallup) - six in 10 citizens see partisan bias. The President engages in a continual war of disparaging words.

Freedom of the press, critical to democracy, is protected by the First Amendment. What do we mean by a free press? What are the threats to press freedom?
